One of the areas I emphasize as I train loan officers is their ability to manage their time. My motto is "Don't work longer, work smarter." This means spending more time on producing activities (marketing, taking applications, going to closings etc.) and less time on non-producing activities.
Doug Smith (one of the great trainers in our industry!) wrote a fantastic artice titled Following the 80/20 Rule located on MortgageSuccessLibrary.com. In this piece, Doug shows you how making even small shifts in your day can greatly increase your marketing and production.
What's on your schedule today? Focus your efforts on managing your time and you will be amazed at the amount of work you can accomplish. Don't just wait for things to happen....in fact, if this is how you approach your day, things probably won't happen in a way that you would like. Highly successful people spend time each morning planning every part of their day. If you want to produce more loans next month, you will probably have to do things differently. And the only way to do things differently is to plan and then follow through on your plan.
