Heidi McNaughton with Mercantile Bank works hard to create a team environment with her staff. Once or twice a year she has a Processor Appreciation Day which also includes some forward thinking goal setting and planning.
First, they go to lunch at a restaurant with paper tablecloths (Macaroni Grill comes to my mind). They spend the first few minutes talking about their goals and how to accomplish them. Writing everything down on the table so all can see - very visual! After lunch they take the tablecloth with them for reference.
Then they go to a movie, a spa or shopping to take a fun break from the office. A fantastic way to develop camaraderie and stronger personal relationships. This is what will carry you through the stressful days. 
Follow up with a synopsis of what was on the table cloth so everyone has the plan and can stay focused on the goals and their individual assignments. This is a great way to promote teamwork while having fun. A sure bet to bring your team closer to their goals.
