As I mentioned here, I am working my way through the 52 chapters of The 29% Solution by Ivan Misner and Michelle Donovan, covering one chapter every Thursday. Week 37 - Write Your Own Identity
In my office, I have a framed picture I received as a gift six years ago. It is a copy of one my first articles published in the Scotsman Guide. When I started my training business, I also began writing articles for different mortgage publications. I also began writing almost daily for this blog and my newsletter. I did this because at the start of my business I read something that struck a chord.... I think it was Jack Canfield that said "Almost all of my success I can trace back to my writings."
This week's chapter is all about gaining exposure and credibility by writing articles. You can increase your visibility within your community by utilizing this marketing strategy. This is not the same as a press release. In order to get your articles published, they need to be newsworthy. Information that the general public will find valuable and interesting. There is much news about our industry right now. I think articles titled "A Nation of Renters" or "Home affordability at an All-Time Low" would capture the attention of the editor and the public.
Once you have an article or two, send an email to the editor of your local publications and follow up with a phone call. If they say this isn't what they are looking for, ask what you could offer that their audience would be interested in. Don't worry about the rejection. You are bound to get some, but be persistent.
Once you get an article published, do a bit of shameless self-promotion and post it on social media, your website or other internet sites you are involved with. Send a copy fo your referral partners. This is great marketing.
Week 37 Action: Interestingly enough, Misner states that only 2% of the people reading his book will actually take this step. I encourage you to be in that 2% and start writing this week.
